Fisheries Law Library
The Fisheries Law Library is the culmination of a joint effort of faculty from two colleges at the University of Illinois, The College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences and The College of Law. The overall goal was to examine the connections between important environmental laws that affect our fisheries and the science of fisheries conservation.
Specifically, students in the Law School were challenged to dissect and explain, from a legal perspective, the inner workings of seven key fisheries laws. Concurrently, graduate students studying fish and wildlife ecology in the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences provide case studies that document how specific, real-world issues related to fisheries conservation are impacted by the environmental laws that shape today’s management decisions and actions. The students then built learning modules to provide others with information about these laws and about key fisheries conservation issues related to them.
